Richard Whitehouse is a freelance web programmer and would-be guitarist, based in Manchester.

web programming

Originally from the West-Midlands, Richard took an interest in web & multimedia during his time at school. After studying Media Communication & Production at Sixth Form College, he decided to take things to the next level.

In 2003 he graduated from Staffordshire University, with a BA Hons on the Interactive Multimedia degree course.

Following a period of freelance work, teaching guitar and a trip to the states, he became the web developer for Car Electronics Ltd (Leicester, Derby and Nottingham). As web developer he was responsible for design and delivery of all web applications, available to staff, trade and the public.

It was a diverse role, where he also brushed up on network management, systems implementation, hardware maintenance and print design.

Since 2007 Richard has been pursuing freelance web work in Manchester.

guitars

If he's not in front of a screen, then you'll find him messing around with guitars or listening to some tunes. Richard has always been a keen musician, and would like to play the piano and drums. Where words fail, music speaks!

awards

In the Hypermedia module at university, Richard created an online educational artefact to support school children learning Geography. The artefact was both highly graphical and code intensive, developed entirely in Flash and Action Script for full interactivity. It carried strong educational design principals throughout.

Manchester up close has won second place and runner up in international multimedia awards. The project has also featured as site of the day on educational portal sites across the Internet.
